Description
This book of poems was created from research transcripts. There are three parts of the book. Part One focuses on the environmental influences acting on children. Part Two explores how children would like to act out their preferences and values. Part Three seeks to “Piece it All Together”. Care, dedication and innovation will continue to make Shriners Hospitals for Children an even more happier, safe and child-friendly place.

Summary
This collection of “found poetry” is based on the ongoing research conducted at the Shriners Hospitals for Children®-Canada. The research aims to promote a stronger recognition of the voices of children with OI and their desire to participate in matters of importance to them. Children have complex values, moral feelings and preferences that may not always be made visible to adults who care for them. Culture, hospital protocols, and clinicians ability to engage with children, play an important role in whether or not children are fully heard.

Excerpt
The hardship was not a medical problem It's physical and social barriers, The hardship was not a medical problem It's physical and social barriers, .......The teachers were not nice ........ bullies ........The doctors were a little bit mean He would wish that he would not feel so much pain when others made fun of him. Stigmatization That was the hardship. I did not live with the sense of being different children in my school were sensitized they started saying what would and would not work for me. [So I wouldn't have to] still, I would like there to be ramps instead of steps bigger bathrooms. If I could change the world? Kindness I would just make everyone a bit kinder. It's hard work. To throw roses in return for rocks.
