Until recently health was improving throughout the ~vorld; and there are good reasons to believe that this tendency ~vil1c ontinue in developing countries. Unfortunately, however, there are definite indications that this no longer holds true for the middle-aged male population in some European countries. Increasing mortaliry rates are associated with a higher incidence of cardiovascular diseases and also with a lower level of physical fitness.
