The GEMSIWATER Steering Committee serves as the principal coordination, information exchange and forward planning mechanism for the GEMSIWATER programme. Steering Committee sessions are usually planned on a biennial basis, with the last one, covering the 1994195 biennium, having taken place at the Global Runoff Data Centre in lioblenz in June 1995. The present session, one year later, was planned to take advantage of the participation of several key GEMSIWATER collaborators at the workshop Monitoring Tailor-Made II, held at the Hotel Vennendal, Nunspeet, NL, from 9 to 12 September 1996.
