Description
This is a book about my training to become a teacher of Transcendental Meditation® (TM®) under the guidance of His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi. My journey to become a TM teacher began even before I was initiated into the practice of Transcendental Meditation. It happened quite spontaneously while I was attending an introductory lecture by the Maharishi at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Something just clicked; a heartfelt connection had occurred during Maharishi’s closing remarks, when he stated, “Let one man in 100,000 step forward to become a teacher of my meditation in his community.” I knew then that I had to be that one man in 100,000. After I began the practice of Transcendental Meditation I realized from my own transformational experience that Maharishi’s teachings were very special. And I was sure that in time that Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation as a means of rapid spiritual development would spread to become a historic event. Therefore, I was compelled to document my experiences over the ensuing fifty years, as my personal validation of the effectiveness of the TM technique. I kept a detailed diary: that documentation has led me to write Autobiography of A Brooklyn Yogi. In writing my autobiography I included five chapters about my introduction to Transcendental Meditation and becoming a teacher of TM. But as I wrote, I realized that my abridged account of my teacher training was insufficient; I had so much more that I wanted to include. By copying the five chapters from my autobiography I was able to expand on the material and provide much more details and many more pictures than I would have otherwise been able to do in the context of a more general fifty-year overview. Hence, a separate book evolved: "Becoming a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation." "Becoming a Teacher of Transcendental Meditation" is an account of just one year of my life, nevertheless it was the most transformational year of my life. Therefore, this period of time deserved to be expanded and made into a separate book. I hope that you will enjoy reading about my introduction to Transcendental Meditation, my experience of becoming a teacher of this simple, yet powerful meditation technique, and how it has changed my life.

Summary
My life quickly spiraled out of control. I was at the lowest nadir of my life. Unfortunately, there are always negative forces lurking in the shadows waiting for just such a weakened spirit to wreak their havoc; and I easily succumbed to them. Fortunately, there is someone who also comes along to provide you with the right solution to all of your problems. Just at my weakest moment and greatest despair I was most fortunate to cross paths with His Holiness Maharishi Mahesh Yogi who introduced me to his simple technique of deep meditation. I tried it and suddenly my life got better, and I do mean suddenly! The year before being initiated into Transcendental Meditation was the worst year of my life. The year after being initiated into Transcendental Meditation was one of the best years of my life: I found the elixir of life. Now I wanted to share it with others; I enrolled into Maharishi’s Transcendental Meditation Teacher Training Course in India. The following chapters are about my transformation from darkness to light, and the metaphysical experiences, which I enjoyed in the process.

Excerpt
CHAPTER TEN: Swami Lakshmanjoo, Master of Nature ...After a few hours, Lakshmanjoo arrived by shikara to join in the lecturing. He and Maharishi lectured for two more hours, which exceeded my attention span. I do not remember what was discussed. However, I will never forget when the topic shifted to a discussion of siddhis and Maharishi said, “Lakshmanjoo is a master of nature. He has the ability to make it rain. Do you want to see it rain?” Maharishi turned to Lakshmanjoo and urged, “Show them.” So, Lakshmanjoo in a matter-of-fact manner showed us. It was a bright sunny day with hardly a cloud in the sky. Quickly the sky became overcast and within minutes it began to rain. After a few minutes the rain stopped and the skies quickly became clear and sunny as before. We were all amazed by this demonstration, but it was no big deal for Lakshmanjoo. The day soon came to a close and it became another unforgettable adventure in mystic India...
