A literary novel that touches on drug addiction, domestic violence and coming of age.

In 1999 in Valentina, California, a young man named Will Herrera, unable to control his methamphetamine use, joins a recovery program. There, he befriends Rodney Toth, an older recovering addict with a similar history. When Will and Rodney learn that Keiko Tsuhara, a young woman with whom Will is infatuated, is being battered by her boyfriend, they plot to avenge her, with horrible consequences. In five chapters, the novel explores the minds and histories of the characters as they seek to understand how to know, and do, what is right.
