Description
In this series of books we look at a single type of crane, in this case the Rail Steam Crane. We give details of how it was contruncted and some the other types it lead to.

Summary
In the year they started their company 1879 Coles made their first recorded sale of a crane, it was for a steam mobile crane. This crane was of a pattern similar most of the other cranes being built at the time.

Excerpt
we see some of the original photographs that were taken some time after 1898 when Coles had moved to Derby. They are taken of completed cranes standing outside the works at Slack Lane. They show the diversity of variations on the standard pattern. The close up of the platform showing the operator gives a good idea of just how big some of these cranes could be. By this time they were able to make cranes lifting upto 36 tons.
