Today we are going to learn how students, teachers and librarians can access eBooks, from the School eBook Library for viewing on a personal computer. To get started, you will need A computer or laptop An internet connection or data service And an eLibrary card for the School eBook Library During this tutorial I will be using the Chrome browser, but these steps will work for all major browsers such as Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari. Let’s begin: If your school gave you a direct link to the library, please skip this part of the tutorial, otherwise open a browser and type schoollibrary.org into your search bar. Now select Sign In. From here you can enter an offsite access code provided to you by your school or enter your username and password and click “Sign In” After you log in, the homepage of the School eBook Library will load. Your homepage may look different than this one but everything in our tutorial will work the same way. Before we talk about downloading eBooks, let’s take a moment to investigate some of the exciting discovery tools for students on the homepage. First, our eBook Finder. This is a great tool for finding interesting resources quickly. Simply type in a search term and click search. We also have a collection of video tutorials, like this one, taking you step by step through many of the fun and useful features of our library. In addition you will find a variety of collections hand curated for students of all ages such as math and history lessons, audio books, children’s literature, graphic novels and sheet music. Now let’s get started: If you’d like to browse for a book, select the books tab from the main menu. This will take you to the Academic Research Collections page. Select anyone of our collections to continue browsing for a book. On the other hand, if you know what you are looking for, you can search for it using the “eBook finder tool.” Today we will search for one of my personal favorites, “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz” by Frank Baum. The eBook finder tool will help make author title and article suggestions based on the information entered in If you see something you are looking for, feel free to select it, if not, continue with your search. This brings us to the search results page which includes eBooks, articles and other resources. When you find the resource you’re looking for, click the resource image or title to load the book details page. As you can see, your book has already opened and is ready to read now. By clicking here, you can translate the text into other languages, like french. The tabs here contain author title and subject information relevant to your book in the form of encyclopedia articles These articles are supplied by World Heritage Encyclopedia. We have also provided collections of other books related to the book you are reading now. The School eBook Library gives you several options to save your book for reading when not connected to the internet including Google Drive and Dropbox, But for now, lets save this book directly to your computer by clicking the book’s cover. A fullscreen copy of the book will load in your browser If you are using Chrome click the save icon to download your eBook. The save icon is located on a toolbar in the lower right part of the browser window. If you do not see the toolbar, move your cursor to the lower right part of the window to reveal a hidden menu containing this option. If you are using Internet Explorer, Firefox, or Safari the save icon will be located in the upper right corner of the browser window. click the icon to save. Regardless of which browser you use, your computer will ask for permission to save the file To continue, you need to grant your computer permission to download the file. Your browser might ask where you want to save your file, but if it does not, the default location is usually the downloads folder on your computer When your eBook has finished downloading, double click it’s icon to open it in your default PDF viewer. Now you can scroll through pages zoom in zoom out print your book or resume reading at a later time All - Congratulations, you have successfully added a new eBook to your computer.
